Welcome To South central railway mazdoor union - Vijayawada

The South Central Railway Mazdoor Union was registered on 08.08.1966 with Secunderabad as Headquarters, in the light of the decision taken to form South Central Railway on 02.10.1966. The South Central Railway was formed with the inclusion of Vijayawada, Hubli divisions from Southern Railway and Secunderabad & Sholapur divisions of Central Railway. Our Union from its inception was affiliated to All India Railwaymen's Federation & Hind Mazdoor Sabha. The First General Council of the Union was held in Boys Scout hall in Secunderabad. In that meeting Com. S.B. Giri was elected as Zonal President and Comrade A.V.K. Chaitaynya took the post of General Secretary.

The Office Bearers were given recognition on 29.10.1966. On the day of its formation the Union was having 41 branches. It soon developed into a major force with 118 branches and a membership of over 80 thousands. The Union first took up the case of those victimized employees who lost their jobs in the 1960 General Strike and a delegation met the then Railway minister Mr. S.K. Patil when he visited Secunderabad on 02.10.1966 and submitted a Memorandum demanding the re-instatement of all those employees.

Even though Court did not entertain the appeals of those dismissed employees and a negative judgement came in their favour for re-instatement, earlier the union with its untiring efforts dealing the issue with the then President of India, Sri. V.V. Giri, Railway Board Chairman and even the then Prime Minister of India Smt. Indira Gandhi got re-instatement of all the 16 dismissed employees into service in October, 1971.
